Become an ISOC member

ISOC is supported by an active, global network of members who help promote and pursue the ISOC mission in all parts of the Internet community and all parts of the world. Members benefit from access to educational opportunities and informational resources and they participate actively in ISOC discussions and activities. Members are vital to ISOC’s existence, providing energy, support, ideas, inspiration, and funding.

Types of memberships

Membership is open for individuals and organisations. Groups of members also form chapters; so as an ISOC member, you could either join an existing chapter or start one yourself.Individuals

Individuals

can become Global Members of ISOC free of charge, or choose to join as a Sustaining Member and pay an annual membership fee. In either category, you're welcome and encouraged to get involved in an ISOC chapter, helping us continue to reach out locally on a global basis. Note that individual chapters have different processes for participation and membership.

(Business Rules in Membership System (BRIMs

Summary of Purpose:This document provides a framework for business rules to define how ISOC members (individual and organization), chapters and staff interact within the ISOC membership system. We developed these business rules with the input of chapters and members, through discussions that provided valuable insights about the business rules and practices. Those insights go beyond implications for the membership system and touch on the broader question of ISOC’s membership policy. We have started a review of ISOC membership policies and procedures and will incorporate into that review information collected during our discussions with chapters and members regarding these business rules. The next step is to engage with the ISOC community to explore options for developing a membership system that meets the needs of all segments of the ISOC community and is consistent with these business rules. We recognize that current chapter by-laws may not be consistent with these rules, so chapters will be allowed time to implement the business rules in their by-laws.

Membership Levels

ISOC offers two individual membership levels: the Sustaining Member and the Global Member. Both levels give individuals opportunities to actively participate in ISOC's activities.Individual memberships are for people who share the goal of supporting ISOC's Mission and Principles and agree to ISOC's code of conduct. Individual members get access to ISOC's conferences, educational events, announcements, briefings, and newsletters. They are invited to participate in ISOC's surveys and discussion groups. Individual members can also participate in ISOC Chapters around the world, helping ISOC to continue to have a global impact by reaching out locally. The Sustaining Member level includes the additional benefit of allowing individuals to participate in the election of one ISOC Board of Trustee Member, once 500 sustaining members join together under the Organizational Membership plan.pate in the election of one ISOC Board of Trustee Member, once 500 sustaining members join together under the Organizational Membership plan.

Internet Code of Conduct

From the early days, the Internet pioneers recognised that many Internet functions required trust and that, in effect, the Internet was a public "commons", relying on the good conduct of those who used it to operate to its maximum technical and social potential. The demographics of Internet use today are very different and many of the trust relationships are now being formalised with technical and administrative processes. Nevertheless the statements in these early "code of conduct" documents remain a very good guide for responsible Internet operators and users and a useful historical reference for technical operations

Saudi Arabia IPv6 Task Force
.
Workshop on the IPv6 development in Saudi Arabia

The internet has become an essential enabler and factor in all social, economic and educational aspects of our lives. The Internet Protocol Version 4 (IPv4), the building block of the internet, is a scarce and limited resource that is being depleted with estimates expecting the time of depletion to be around the year 2011. To address the looming depletion of IPv4, the Internet Protocol Version 6 (IPv6) standard has been introduced to secure the reliability, scalability and sustainability of future growth of the internet.

CITC is organizing a workshop to address the IPv6 Saudi Arabian perspective in addition to the worldwide IPv6 developments. DevoTeam is sponsoring the workshop.
The workshop will be held on Sunday 8th of February 2009, in Sheraton Hotel,

Riyadh
